Introducción El Monte Athos constituye un promontorio peninsular unido a la península de Calcídica por un istmo que el rey persa Jerjes mandó cortar por un canal (480 a.C.). Es la más oriental de las tres digitaciones que lanza la península sobre el mar Egeo.
